Little Apples by Aneela Hoey for our new addition

We recently had a new addition to our family.  Our third baby niece was born just before Thanksgiving.  They live a state away and we are seeing them at Christmas. We tossed around the idea of what to get her as our little welcome to the world gift.  For our other niece we had made a step stool but we weren't able to do that this time. I naturally said how perfect a quilt would be.

I really wanted to make a quilt using fabric that will grow with her and since her parents are big OSU fans, I decided to use Little Apples by Aneela Hoey.  The color combination just seemed to be perfect.

This fabric is like a day at the park.  There are children singing, dancing and playing.  There are happy animals prancing about.  And of course there are trees and apples.

The colors, red, olive green, turquoise blue, gray and white, blend and coordinate nicely together.

Since, of course, it was getting down to the wire as far as getting it going and having it completed before Christmas, I choose to use a combination of pre-cut fabric and yardage.

I grabbed a jelly roll and just started sewing away.  I added a long 6" horizontal strip to the top of the vertical ones to even everything out.  I also decided attach a pillow size quilt and add it to the backing so the quilt could be turned into pillow as well.

Quillow's have  always my favorite.  You have a place to keep your feet warm and you can easily fold it neatly into a pillow for storing or resting your head.

I was super happy with the way it turned out.  Quilt are blankets of love so I hope she loves it as much as I do.
