Meet Our Newest Facebook Fan of the Week - Mrs. Pam

Things have definitely been a little crazy around here.

Our son was married in our back yard last weekend. It was absolutely gorgeous!! They got married on the very same platform that my wonderful husband Mike built for us to get married on last year on the Fourth of July.

We also have a new baby here at the Wango Tango Ranch. Unfortunately, he is just here for recovery.

About 10 weeks ago he was hit by a car and the vet gave two options this last week - Put him down or put him in a big pasture for a year and see if he heals. Since his Mommy didn't have a big pasture, she asked us to help.
We gladly said yes and this is Mr. Ozzy!

Him and Diego have become buds in no time!! My son Justin, well... he is in love.

We will get into that a little more later.

Right now, we are here to meet this week's Facebook Fan!!

Everyone, meet Mrs. Pam Smothermon.
I was lucky enough to meet this beautiful lady when she worked at Moda. I immediately fell in love with her positive attitude, her great personality, and her super cute accent too! I know you will fall in love with her too after getting to know more about Pam!

Do you have a blog? Url?

I do but it has nothing on it. I need to learn how to change things on it and make myself blog regularly.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My destiny was to be born into a rodeo and ranching family.

I was born in California to a U.S. Marine (a Texas cowboy) and a California ranch girl. I got my first saddle when I was 6 weeks old from my rancher grandfather. With the military and my dad's love of Texas I wasn't in California for long.

By the time I was 10 we were living in Texas permanently. I grew up in very rural, western livestyle of horses, cattle and rodeos. We started riding as soon as we could walk, and in some cases sooner! I have a younger brother and sister, that are still my best friends, and our entire family rodeoed. (Although, I was often the one back in the house reading while the others rode!)

My family is a very, very close loving family with a strong Christian mother that has always been the backbone of our family. At the still tender age of 20 I brought my own rodeo cowboy into our family, my husband and love of my life. That was 34 years ago on July 9th. Although we have no children, we have always had lots of dogs and horses.

We now only have 3 dogs, all 3 are house dogs, a Beagle, a Lab and a Boxer mix. LOL Much more of a house full than kids! We still live on what is left of his family's farm in North Texas but we no longer have any roping horses in the barn.

I have always worked in Dallas in accounting but I am currently looking for a change in careers, closer to home. I have a good life with my wonderful family and there is no better place to be than in a loving family!

When did you start sewing?

Mom started teaching me around 8, then she made me take 4H sewing, after that Home Ec. I made some of my own clothes for a long time. And on our 1st Wedding anniversary my hubby bought me my first, very own sewing machine. A Singer I still have, but now I use a Pfaff.

When did you start quilting?

In 1991, a friend and I took a 6 weeks quilting class. I loved it but work and life got in the way so I did not continue. Then about 7 years ago, I took a beginner class as a refresher course and I was addicted! My stash room is full. :) I have so many quilt tops that need to be quilted!

When you are about to make a quilt, do you prefer starting with a Jelly Roll, Layer Cake, Charm Packs, Fat Quarters, or Yardage?

At first I bought only yardage, then I started buying Fat Quarters and Charm Packs because I wanted "all of it" now I buy precuts for some things and yardage for others. Usually depending on if I know ahead of time or if I buy it a whim. LOL

Do you mostly quilt from patterns/books or do you try to create your own styles?

Mostly patterns but I have created a few of my own. I created one of my own that I love, by using Texas Wildflower fabrics and a picture window with panes. (we need pics of this one Pam!!)

Which fabric manufacturer is your favorite? Moda, Free Spirit, Michael Miller, etc

Oh that's easy! I have been a Moda "Snob" for about 7 years now! lol

Jelly Roll Quilt 001

What style of fabrics is your favorite? Traditional, Modern, etc

I have always chosen fairly traditional fabrics and patterns. But last year my mom made the comment that I always chose darker colors. :( lol But it was really true so I have made an effort for the last 7-8 months to buy only BRIGHTER fabrics! Stepped out out of my comfort zone and it has been fun!

When it comes to quilting, what challenges do you face?

Machine free motion quilting! I can hand quilt but it takes way too long! And I can stitch in the ditch on my machine but my analytical brain has a hard time with free motion! But I am going to have to do it and stop taking them to my long arm quilter.

What would you like to learn more about?

Everything. I Love to learn new things about quilting.

What is your favorite part of quilting?

Definitely piecing and seeing the quilt come together.

Is there anything else you want to tell us?

I am soooooo glad my short career at Moda led me to Shawna and 1 Choice 4 Quilting!

I am so happy too!! Thanks Pam for sharing with us :))

I hope you will join in on our Facebook Page and maybe you will be our next Facebook Fan of the Week!
