I am SO excited to bring you all this post! I have been living in this fog for so long and I feel like I am finally coming out!!
So I am finally able to bring you all this post and without further ado....
Step By Step Directions for Creating Your Own Blog
There are several different types of blogging software out there and they all have their reasons for being great.
For today, I am going to show you how to start a blog using Blogger.
It is:
The first thing we need to do is go to:
www.blogger.com
Next we need to sign in with our Google Account.
If you have a Gmail email address - sign in using your gmail information.
If you don't have a Google Account, click the Get Started Link. (please note - you can click on any of the images below to get the larger version)
OR
Go to mail.google.com and set up a Gmail address. This will look like yourname@gmail.com
Whether you sign in or create an account, the next screen you will see will be the Dashboard.
Click the button to Create Your Blog Now
The next screen will be the hardest part of this entire process BUT don't get stuck here.
You are going to give your Blog a title and an address (or URL). The URL of a page is how people get directly to your website. It would be like typing in www.1Choice4Quilting.com to get to our store.
Again... do NOT get stuck here because you can change this at ANY time.
*hint* IF you are going to change your Blog Name and URL - do it in the beginning. Otherwise all your new friends and readers might not be able to find you.
You can call this Susie's Quilt Blog. You can call this Susies' Piece of Heaven. You can call this anything you want. You have been reading blogs all this time. Look at their names for inspiration to help find yours.
For the blog address, you want it to coincide with your name so people will be able to remember it.
You may want to put susiesquiltblog.blogspot.com or if that is not available susies-quilt-blog. Try different combinations.
Click continue and it is time to design your blog. Do NOT get stuck here. With a few simple clicks, this is SUPER easy to change.
*hint* Don't pick anything too dark. It will be hard for people to read and they will just leave your website. Simple in blue or Ethereal are two great ones to start with that will allow your readers to read your words.
Check it out!! Your blog has been created!! How cool is THAT!!
So easy, right??
Let's do a quick test blog post to make sure it looks really pretty.
There are 4 steps for creating our first post.
Now you will see the following screen
Click View Post
Pretty Pretty Pretty!!
Great job everyone!!
Now practice adding new posts with pictures, changing fonts, and even creating links.
I will be back soon with part 2 showing you how to do all the above in more detail and how to customize your blog.
Do NOT worry about breaking anything. You can clear edits, you can undo most things, and if it gets really bad....delete the blog and start again.
Have FUN learning your new blog.
And to inspire you to start your own blog....
Leave a comment below with the link to your pretty new blog and you will be automatically entered to win a GORGEOUS fat quarter bundle of Anthology Bryant Park Fat Quarter Bundle
Where do you find the link?
Just go to the top of your screen to the address bar and copy the address of your blog
Good luck everyone!
Drawing ends July 17th so you have TWO weeks to get this easy project DONE!!
So I am finally able to bring you all this post and without further ado....

The hardest thing for me was sitting up the slideshow. I finally had to use Picasa to sit up my pictures. I have had my Blog for just a week. This is really helping though. I'm going over everything.

I have a blog. I don't blog often, because I hand quilt and there isn't often much new progress. It is there though to share my news. http://runtomomma.blogspot.com
Great tutorial. I think some people wish to blog but feel too intimidated. Your tutorial makes it nice and easy to walk through setting up a blog.
My blog isn't new but I am always learning something new about blogging.
My blog is only a month or so old so hopefully I still count. I have been starting to post pics of what I'm doing with that fantastic fandango fabric! http://asometimesquilter.blogspot.com/

Lol, now I find this after recently biting the bullet and deciding to revamp 2 of my 3 blogs with new titles or URL's or a design change! My sewing blog has a new design and a URL rename
http://robs-stitchintime.blogspot.com/
I'm having trouble figuring how to add pages to it though as I can't seem to get the jist of the google instructions :(.
Cheers,
Robyn
My blog isn't new either... it started as a project I had to do for a Nursing Informatics class, but has since become my journal of creativity and a way to share my projects.
Also, the posts I've made about HOW I've done something are coming in very handy for practicing to teach my new quilting class.
http://rosetreeoriginals.blogspot.com/
Only recently, did I figure out how to add seperate pages... also tried to add my header I made, but I can't figure out how to make it the right size... so always learning, and I very much appreciate these lessons! Wish they'd been around when I first started, lol!
My blog is just a baby, I started it in August 2010. Sometimes I have some problems, so thank for your useful tips. You can find my blog at:
http://quiltingstitchingandsewon.blogspot.com
My blog is not very old. I don't have a lot of time to add to it and I forget to take pictures. I want to have separate areas-one to post giveaways, one for my garden, one for my grand kids and one for my quilting. I haven't been able to figure out how (or if I can) do that.
http://negnellie.blogspot.com/
I'm brand new :) I've been wanting to do this for awhile, but have been uncertain because with my business and life, things are a little crazy and I'm still not sure I'll be able to post as often as I should. I decided on wordpress because it fit my needs better, but here's my blog created this weekend: www.quiltingunleashed.wordpress.com
Looking forward to the rest of the tutorials...thanks for the nudge!
I Love the Bryant Park collection. What a fabulous prize. My blog is http://www.quiltjane.blogspot.com
My blog is a year old....but I figured it all out by myself. I am going to send your post to my cousin who I am encouraging to start a blog. I think the instructions will be helpful for her. Here's my link http://cariboucrossingchronicles.blogspot.com/
I already have a blog, but just wanted to say I wish I'd had your instructions 2 years ago when I was starting it and learning by trial and error.
Thanks to you Shawna I am now a blogger!! Followed your tutorial and this is where I am. http://angeleagayle.blogspot.com/ I have a long way to go and looking forward to step 2.
Hey Shawna, I decided it is time to stalk you for awhile. I have missed you so much and hope you are getting around much better. Broken bones are not meant to be. That was a great tute on setting up a blog, where were you when I was struggling to make mine? I saved this as sometimes I still struggle to change things around. Hugz to you, you are indeed special to so many of us.
I have been blogging awhile but I sure will read everything you post and learn what I have been doing wrong! I have not be able to figure out how to post a video so I hope you cover that.
