I hope you are ready for our next giveaway because I most definitely am!
Although I have to apologize to our newsletter subscribers because I told them this post would be up last night. However, when I crawled my way into bed to write the post.... Mike offered up cuddling and a movie. I couldn't resist and I had to say YES!
So to make it up to you all... I just added twice the winners :))
By the way, our last giveaway you gave us so much feedback that we appreciate more than you know and we are already putting many of your thoughts into actions. More on that later!
So what are we giving away today??
Well....
I had a hard time deciding because everything we have gotten in lately is SO pretty but, I couldn't resist this one collection.
Strawberry Fields
I am completely in love with this collection and based on your feedback, we know you are too.
So we are giving away a super beautiful Fat Quarter Bundle of 16 gorgeous Strawberry Fields fabrics to...
Plus...
We are going to give you 2 yards of matching Bella Solids for you to use for sashing or binding or whatever you want.
You will get to choose between Fig Tree Cream, Fig Tree Olive, and Fig Tree Wheat.
Yummy!
Oh and since 4 is just such a strange number...let's do this:
We love and appreciate our bloggers who help us spread the word about our giveaways!
We have these GORGEOUS totes in our Moda Home Collection that are coated with vinyl so you can take them EVERYWHERE and one lucky blogger will get to pick out their favorite Moda Tote Bag.
You never know what you might find inside when it arrives....
Don't have a blog? It is time to start one and I am going to help you!!
Starting this week, I will be writing up some tutorials on showing you exactly how to start your own blog and what to blog about. It's time to share your quilts and fun with the world :)
You will have PLENTY of time to build it, play with it, share our giveaway, and come back and enter our special contest.
One last thing before we go, if you need a fabric fix... check out our store this weekend.
Alright everyone here are your 5 changes to win and good luck!!
1. Please leave your first comment by telling us... When did you first start sewing or quilting? Feel free to tell a story. I love reading your comments!
2. If you decide to follow our blog (left column under what's new) or you already do follow us, leave us another comment letting us know you have.
3. If you decide to Follow us on Twitter or you already do, leave us another comment letting us know you have. We would love it if you would retweet our giveaway too :) That would be AWESOME!!

I started sewing at primary school under the intruction of a favourite teacher - Mrs Ellis
I started sewing in junior high school. i've made clothes mostly, but have a strong desire to learn to quilt. I won a sewing machine in a drawing, and already have a pile of "things to make" next to it.
I have been quilting for a few yrs and I love starting a project and then have a beautiful colorful quilt at the end. quilting to me is my relaxing time I get to my sewing machine and I lose all track of time I love fabric
I follow your blog!!!
I like you on facebook.
Hi, Shawna! I like your Facebook page!
I'm not exactly sure when I started sewing but I think I was about 12 years old - when I was 16 I had learned enough to take apart a navy blue wool pleated skirt, press the fabric flat and made a pair of bell bottom pants out of it!

I taught myself to quilt over 10 years ago. I was a stay at home Mom and found Simply Quilts on TV on day. I watched each day. After awhile I was so hooked that I had to make my first quilt. I used my kid's old clothes and cut out rectangles with scissors. I used a CD case as a template. There were no quilt shops where we lived so I used a mattress protector as batting. After that first quilt I made a few more using whatever I could find around the house; old clothes, sheets, blankets as batting, anything.
I have such a freedom when I quilt now. I broke so many rules in the beginning that I don't worry about the quilt police and I do whatever works for me and the project I am working on at the time.

My grandmother started to teach me to sew when I was five years old on an old Singer machine. When she passed away I inherited that machine and have taught my own daughter on it. There have been four generations that have sewn on that same machine now. When I was starting to sew if I seam wasn't straight, she would make me rip it out and do it over until it was perfect. To this day, I can't leave a seam that isn't straight all they way down.
I started quilting the year we got married - 25 years ago - because I decided to make a quilt for everyone for Christmas. They were VERY basic lap quilts that I tied. I gradually got more adventurous and started experimenting with all sorts of quilted projects.
The funny thing is that I got thrown out of home economics because I told the teacher she didn't know anything about being economical because she was cutting out the patterns in such a way that it wasted material and since I bought the fabric I planned on laying it out in such a way as to save as much material as possible. Another lesson learned from my grandma (not the talking back part!)
I love following the blog!
I shared the giveaway on Facebook. I want everyone to know about your quilt shop!
I started sewing when I was about 5. I made most of my dresses growing up, and did wedding gowns and more. I did my first quilt about 23 years ago, and love having different projects to work on. I make most of my Christmas gifts. Some get pajamas, and others quilts.
I do follow your blog, and follow on Facebook. Thanks.

I started quilting in January. I made a baby quilt for my best friend's first grandchild. I enjoyed it so much, I signed up for a quilting class at my LQS. We made a single irish chain quilt using a jelly roll. I choose a black and white jelly roll and a tonal black background. The instructor suggested I add a bit of color, so I added 7 lime green squares at random thoughout the twin size quilt and used that same lime green to bind it. I'm very proud of it. Since then, I've made a throw. And just finished quilting a 1600 quilt using a Holly Taylor Classics jelly roll. Waiting for the mailman to deliver my backing fabric so I can finish my BasicGrey Origins quilt top from 5 charm packs in the disappearing nine-patch pattern. Yes, I'm hooked!
I started quilting about 3 years ago just after my son was born and I haven't turned back since! Strawberry Fields looks so appetizing:)
I follow you already:)
I was 'sewing' when a child and learned to sew my own clothes as well as my doll's clothes. Quilting only happened 4 yrs. ago when I found I was medically retired and needed something to fullfill my time. I already fabric framed and 'mini-quilted' my cross stitch pieces, so it was the logical choice. Also, my Mom is a 'hall of famer' so quess it is time to carry on the heritage.
I started sewing around the age of 10 in 4-H. I sewed clothes at that time. In junior high I took more sewing classes and then was a teacher's assistant in a sewing class. That was SO much fun. Sewed all of my cheerleading outfits all through high school. Continued to sew myself clothes all through my 20's and 30's and then had two beautiful daughters in my early 30's. I sewed them matching dresses for every holiday and had more fun sewing for them than myself. When they would take their naps, I would watch Alex Anderson's quilt show on HGTV and figured that since I had been sewing clothes all those years, I could certainly sew the straight lines of quilt blocks. The rest is history. My daughters are now both in college and I love quilting more and more each day. Thank you for the chance to win!

I'm 58 years old, and had never really done any sewing before my granddaughter was born 5 years ago. I had a new friend and had been to visit her house, and she had quilts everywhere. I didn't know she quilted until I made a remark about how beautiful all her quilts were. I asked her if she would make a quilt for my upcoming granddaughter. Her response? "No, but I'll teach you how to make one." Who knew it would turn into a new hobby for me? An expensive hobby, for sure.

That's fun to share! I was first introduced to sewing and hand stitching as a young child, I come from a long line of hand crafters who sew, stitch, crochet and other crafty things. But, for me, when I really started to get into sewing was after I had children myself. It is really a lot of fun to create for my kids and they always act like whatever I have made, flaws and all is simply treasured...gotta love that! :)
Thanks for the fun and giveaway! :)

Bragged about ya here;)
I'm old enough that I had to take HomeEc classes in junior high, back when they taught all the girls to cook and sew. One of my first assignments was a polyester double-knit skirt with an elastic waist. I still remember what it looked like, and today could only describe it as SCARY. It was the 70's, so I guess nobody had any good sense when it came to fashion. Surprisingly, after that start I did continue to sew. Mainly clothes, including many of my maternity clothes. Once I started sewing things that are FLAT though, I mostly quit fooling with clothes other than Halloween costumes, which I still love to make. The quilting bug only nibbled on me at first, but finally really sunk its teeth in and I got the full blown fever in the last 5 or 6 years. It's a good addiction, right?
Of course I follow your blog!
I started sewing when I was in junior high school, I learned all the basics and in High School I took Home EC which was sewing cooking all those fun things you need to know in life. I started quilting I think A little over A year ago, the first quilt I made was for myself it was A log Cabin king size quilt, I loved makeing it and it turned out beautiful. I was talking with my sister one night she said why did you pick something so hard... I said well thats what I want to do! so that was my first quilt. I love quilting because it is so relaxing and looking at what you have made yourself is rewarding. Besides Shawna you know Im addicted to fabric, I LOVE LOVE LOVE all your Fabrics!!

I started sewing a couple of years ago with a cheap janome after working for so many hours doing proper English crewel embroidery. I realised it was cheaper to buy a sewing machine than it was to have my embroidery made into pillows, etc for me by a professional. I killed my janome pretty quickly and moved on to my brother which is a dream. Tho a little small for quilting, I must admit.
And I'm a happy follower too!

I have sewed very sporadically since Junior high. 2 dresses for little girls, really. After my 4th was born in 2009, my Mom and MIL encouraged me to try a quilt, they provided the fabrics and pattern and now I am addicted. I have made totes, pillowcases, easy skirts, clutches and quilt tops. I am currently making a sham to match a quilt my MIL made for my youngest.
Thanks!

I actually learned to sew in Home Ec back in High School. I sewed garments for a few years, but after I got married I took a Quilting class and never looked back :-) Thanks so much for such a generous giveaway.
I started quilting about 16 years ago with a church group and I haven't stopped since!
I actually started sewing in junior high school. It was a required course, but my Mom had always sewn, so I wasn't a stranger to it. I started embroidering my jeans (this is dating me I suppose) when I was in the 9th grade. When my children were babies, I made most of their clothes.

I started sewing when I was 14 years old and in a home ec class. I fell in love with it and have been sewing ever since. Thanks for the opportunity to win your great giveaway.
I don't remember when I started but I always remember being in my grandmas sewing room or in the kitchen with her. I am the granddaughter who knits, sews, quilts, bakes and cooks! I remember the first dress I made by myself...It had bugs bunny fused on it! LOL And my first quilt which is probably still in a drawer at her house! It was a tumbling block and we didn't do it right! I love to sew and with 7 kids the projects are always present, if it be patches for their jeans or renissance fair outfits, Im totally there!!! I started sewing a miniquilt when I was about 15, I was self-taught, just by looking at magazines that my parents had brought me from a trip to OR along with some fabric. Then I took a lesson for hand quilting in a patchwork shop in Barcelona. I stopped for years and then I started again about 5 years ago. I haven't stop sewing since I bought my own machine now! I'm addicted...

I first started sewing shortly after I began taking bellydance lessons 14 years ago, and became good enough to perform in public. The costumes are quite expensive, so it was more economical to be creative and make my own. I had always had a fantasy of being a fashion designer anyway, so that fed my creative fire.
In recent years, I've been wanting to reconnect with the memory of my great-grandmother. When I was little, she used to make quilts by hand, and she had a whole room dedicated to a huge handmade quilting frame that hung from the ceiling. I would play under that frame while she worked above me on her quilting. I made my first quilt for my grandmother last spring, and I'm taking baby steps to become more proficient with my quilting skills. Hopefully I'll get the hang of free motion machine quilting soon.
By the way, I have "liked" you on facebook, I follow you on Twitter, and I also follow your newsletter.
I found your blog thru a friend Karen # 58 on the list. I started quilting around 1979 thought I grew up in a quilting house. My mother quilted I remember sitting under the quilt frame (the only area left to view TV) while mother worked on finishing off a quilt. The frame filled the room and there was just enough space so that Dad could sit on one side of the room to see the TV.

I first started quilting in 2001, when my son was born. I went through horrible PPDdepression with him. Turns out he is autistic, he drove us (well me really) crazy that first year. postpartum hit me hard.I took a beginner quilting class to learn to quilt. It was my outlet. I've been quilting since! love it.
I started sewing when I was quite young... Sewing clothes for my Barbie dolls. I only started quilting about a year ago, I made a quilt for my daughters wedding! Very brave start!!
I have been quilting for about 12 years (or so). To be honest I don't recall why I decided to start. I do recall my first quilt though. There was a local quilt shop and I went in there to see if they offered classes. They did...bonus. I was a stay at home mom at the time so I signed up. Another bonus...no charge for the class, you only had to buy the supplies in their shop. No problem I thought. I didn't have anything but the sewing machine (gift from DH who traded an antique machine of his late wife's). Well $300 I was learning to quilt (a sampler). I could have died! I never would have guessed it would cost me that much. I hid that receipt for a long time. As a matter of fact, I don't think I ever told DH how much that quilt cost. The kicker...I ended up going back to work about 1/2 way through that class. It was years before that quilt was finished and I ended up teaching myself everything I know through books and Simply Quilts show on HGTV. It was only recently that I found blogs.
I am a follower, don't know how to tweet though!!
What a lovely giveaway! I started sewing when I was either 11 or 12...sad, I don't remember exactly. I went to a private school and my Mom helped me to make a skirt/jumper type outfit. I really thought it turned out lovely. She continued to help me sew clothes after that...and I have since branched out from there. Course, that was over 20 years ago! Wow...I'm getting old! =)
I follow your lovely blog! Thank you again!
I started sewing when I was 9 or 10 years old. My father's health was bad, and my mom wanted me to know how to sew in case something happened to him and she wouldn't have time to sew for us kids. So she signed me up for a class. I took to it, and have been sewing off and on ever since. I started quilting about 20 years ago when a lady in our church started a woman's quilting/dessert night at her home once a week. I had four kids under seven and was homeschooling, so a night out with the ladies was greatly appreciated. I was the only one, other than the hostess, to finish my hand sewn hexagon flower patterned quilt, mainly because I found I could do it sitting on the sofa while teaching my kids. My daughter still uses it, though because it's getting old I need to make another quilt for her soon.

I follow your blog. I can't wait to get some info on how to start a blog. I've been thinking of making one, but it seems so complicated.
I started quilting in 1993 when I went to an overnight mystery quilt class. You were supposed to know how to do patchwork. My aunt gave me a crash course and we said I knew how to patch! So it was my first quilt and I hand quilted it (queen size!). I didn't know about sending quilts off to be quilted then. lol

I absolutly love Fig Tree Quilts fabric! Thank you for this awesome giveaway.
I first starting sewing like most in home ec in school. Then never again till I recovered a couch for my mom, talk about tackling a big job with no knowledge! But I didn't really start sewing till I had my son and HATED all the diaper bags out there, and said to myself, I can do that! So that was what started me collecting fabric, LOL. I would love to be able to quilt more, but being a single mom of a 5 year old, doesn't leave much time to myself :(
I follow your blog, LOVE it!

First of all I wanted to say thanks for getting my material I needed so quick to me. Got it this morning just in time for our retreat. Thats the fastest I have ever gotten anything.
I started quilting about 1 year and 4 months ago. My best friend and I had tried several other activities and just could not take up to something. Then her mom and some ladies at the church formed a group and we began to sew. I am now working on my 4th quilt which is being completed by following the Quilting Book club. Super cute in Dilly Dally and can't wait to post to Flickr.
I was 23, and preganant with my first baby. I KNEW that he/she had to have a quilt made by me. My Grandma is a quilter (she's just recently had to stop at age 87!) and her Mom was a quilter, so right then the quilting bug bit me. It's been 17yrs now :)

Hi Shawna! I started sewing in my teens, but it was in 1988 that I joined a class to make a sampler quilt- handpieced and handquilted. I still have it and love it, but my choice of fabrics has definitely changed over the years! :0

I started sewing in 2nd grade when my great-grandmother taught me how to do cross stitch on checked gingham. We made matching aprons. By the time I was in 4th grade I was using a sewing machine unsupervised and making clothes for 4H projects.
I enjoy reading your blog--so I'm a follower.
I liked your fb page a while back!
I started sewing when I was 7 or 8 years old. My Dad bought an old clunker of a machine just for to sew on. :-) I made a lot of shorts one summer. lol
I first started sewing when I was eight - my grandmother taught me how to make a pair of shorts, and I spent every summer after that at her house making my school clothes for the next year. But she wasn't a quilter, so I never made a quilt until I was a senior in high school. I made a log cabin "quilt in a day" that actually took a lot longer than that. Being the instant gratification kind of gal that I am, I stopped making quilts until about a year and a half ago. Since then, I've probably made or had a hand in about a hundred quilts!

I sewed at home with my Mom, but then took 2 years of formal sewing lessons in high school...when I was 14 and 15. My teacher was super fussy...couldn't move on to the next step until the current step was inspected and approved. We all were expected to get it right the first time. I made all of my clothes for several years, then home decor items, clothes for my kids...never quilted though, until 2009. Now, you can't drag me away! {grin} This is a fabulous giveaway!
Well; let me see...I started quilting about 28 years ago...my mother-in-law was covering a bedspread for me; a nylong one that had runs all over it; but was so warm and big. She covered it with cotton; and set it up in the quilting frames; just to quilt it enough to hold it together and give it some type of pattern. Well; this turned out to be quite an ordeal; huge bedspread. So; I got her to show me what to do; and helped her. I was addicted; never stopped to look back.

I think I have always done some sort of hand sewing, like embroidery, cross-stitch, etc... I began making clothing and other things just before I got married (which was 26 years ago last week) and I started quilting about 8 years ago, but took a break for about 5 years because the person who was teaching me moved. I started back last fall and really have the bug now.
Thanks for the chance to win some beautiful fabrics to feed my "bug". LOL

I started sewing very early because most of the women in my family were crafty in some way. After leaving home (and the country) it became harder without having all the supplies at my fingertips so I stopped and it wasn't until 10 years of so later, after I was married, that I discovered quilting again. So happy I did :)

I think I was probably around 10 when I first started basic sewing - it was really simple jumpers/dresses for my Barbie dolls. :) Then I was able to take a beginners sewing class when I was 17, that taught the basics of reading a pattern, cutting out your fabric, etc. So that was great to get me started with sewing some real clothes for myself! Now quilting didn't start until I was 20 and used a book called Learning to Quilt to teach myself. So far I've completely finished 2 quilts, finished 2 more tops, and working on a third.

My mother always sewed but my first sewing was done sitting beside a neighbor lady when I was around 4. She'd do her hand sewing and gave me needle and thread and fabric and taught me to sew by hand. By junior high I was making all my own clothes on Mom's machine (it was the most aggravating Singer ever made). I took my first quilting class in the early 80s but never finished that quilt - it's still in boxes downstairs but I did take it out and start repurposing it this year. My mother's best friend asks me at least once a year if I've finished that quilt yet. I cut a couple of quilted sections out of it, bound it and made placemats for her for Christmas. I've made many quilts since then but when I dont' have puppies chewing up pillows anymore, I'll make my own pillows and throws from the rest of that one.

I first started sewing in 10th grade in a class called "Family Life" This was in the days when Home Economics was a girls only class. So the boys got Family Life and we learned to make an apron (sew) and broil a steak (cook) and make bread (bake) Anything else we learned I have long since forgotten.
After high school, I bought a used sewing machine and made several shirts for myself and my sister.
Fast forward ___(a lot of)___ years later. A coworker asked me to take a paper piecing class that she was teaching. I did and the quilting bug bit me. It bit hard. I am still quilting.

My very first quilt, cant rememember. I started quilting in the early 90s. I made a choo choo quilt for my son's room, I log cabin quilt for my mom, a log cabin wallhanging for my mother in law, and an Old Saint Nick wall hanging which I lost because the LQS wanted to hang it for their demo and they relocated. I cant tell you which came first. Oh, there was an awesome dresden plate quilt which my dog chewed up!

I sewed clothes for myself throughout my teens. I made my own wedding dress. I continued to sew curtains and things for my home and clothes for my daughter.
